While we all agree that governments are increasingly indulging in projects that bring political gains and spending money on the unproductive schemes, the point needs more mature narration.

All in all, “Johar” is a preachy political satire with little redeeming points.

On the whole, Johaar is an emotional drama that has a superb premise. It is a direct satire on various political parties as to how they ignore public welfare and think of only their personal agendas. This concept has nicely been set through various stories in the film. Barring the slow pace and a bit predictable second half, this film ends as a decent watch for its good message and solid performances.

While Teja Marni relies on the audience to understand the proceedings without much spoon-feeding, even if some dialogues do get explanatory, the climax which features Rohini seems almost unnecessary in an otherwise subtle tale, especially when it features a long speech on her part. But barring minimal flaws, Teja Marni’s Johaar is a raw and bold statement on the political scenario in the country today. And that makes it worth a watch!

But truth has many sides. Legacy monuments generate revenue, they help build a strong local economy. Our films, including 'Johar', shed tears for farmers. But do they ever ask why the lakhs of crores that have been spent by different States on farm loan waivers haven't solved farm issues? Never! If anything, farm loan waivers have caused more misery indirectly than any larger-than-life statue. Think about it!

The film scores in showing the lifestyle of tribal town Araku, the simplicity of the characters, the innocence of the people there. Director Venkatesh Maha seems to have followed the same original in its essence and screenplay.

On the whole, Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya is an earthy village drama that has some amazing performances. Satyadev single-handedly carries the film with his brilliant act and the first hour is pretty engaging. But a predictable second half and rushed up climax, makes things a bit dull. If you are one who does not mind the slow pace, this film ends as a passable watch during this lockdown period.

Overall, Uma Maheshwar Rao is a faithful remake that is a gripping and engaging watch, for the most part. It leaves us with a satisfying feeling, in the end, making it an easy one-time watch.

Is this film as good as C/o Kancharapalem is a question that might be on many minds, especially seeing as how both are slice-of-life dramas. Maha ensures to make this film his own, even if the source material isn’t his and the effort shows, especially when characters discuss about bamboo chicken losing its authenticity and collect mustard flowers that Araku is dotted with in a particular season.

The director must be appreciated for making the necessary changes to the film, to make the story suit the nativity of Telugu audiences. The film has Araku as a backdrop. The dialogues in the story are very good and provoke thought. The realistic way of making the movie is good.

Neither we understand what he’s trying to say at the end of the movie. It seems that he wanted to explain all this year’s tweets he made against Pawan Kalyan and blaming Gaju Teja for the star’s political debacle. Sounds silly!

On the whole, Power Star is a short film that showcases the life of Pawan Kalyan after he lost the elections. Many thought that this film would be a full-on satirical attack on Pawan Kalyan’s personal and political life. But it is not as RGV shows that Pawan as a sincere person who is misguided. In his narration, RGV throws full-on satires on noted people, and the way he himself confronts the character of Prawan Kalyan looks odd and might not go well with many making this just another weird project from RGV.

In a way, Power Star is a wasted opportunity.  Considering that RGV had an actor who is almost brilliant in imitating Pawan Kalyan, the web-film should have given us more.  What we have on offer is nothing but tabloid-level gossiping sans maturity.  If anything, this film ends up trolling Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo director Trivikram Srinivas.

Despite it all, the biggest drawback the film suffers from is the editing. None of the scenes blend into each other, especially when interspersed with subpar songs by Anup Rubens, and the film just ends up seeming like a mishmash of random scenes that lead to a forced yet predictable ending.

Powerstar is not worth the hype. At the same time, it does not have anything overboard to make fun of Pawan Kalyan. Whatever RGV showcased brings laughs here and there. It is a plain boring short film with five scenes.
